About Us (CIJS)
Chellaston Infant and Junior Schools have a long history of working closely together. We joined East Midlands Education Trust in 2021 and we work closely with the other Chellaston schools and the wider group within the Trust. Since 2023, we have come together as one school community, while still keeping the special ‘infant’ and ‘junior’ character that makes each site unique.
Our staff team work across both sites, regularly moving between the infant and junior schools. This means that from the moment children join us, they begin to know a wide range of teaching and non-teaching staff. As they move through the school, there are always familiar faces ready to welcome, support and encourage them.
One School, Two Identities
We are in the fortunate position of having two distinct phases, an infant school and a junior school, each with its own age-appropriate ethos and environment.
At the same time, we share:
-
A clear, consistent vision and set of values
-
A cohesive curriculum from EYFS through to Year 6
-
A joined-up approach that gives families a true ‘primary school’ experience
This combination allows children to enjoy the nurturing early years and infant provision, and then move naturally into a junior environment that feels like the next step in the same journey, rather than a big leap into the unknown.
Supporting Every Child
We have one SENDCo working across both sites, ensuring that support for children with additional needs is coordinated, consistent and tailored. Our policies and procedures are the same in the infant and junior schools, which helps children and families know what to expect at each stage.
This continuity is especially important at transition points. Because our approach is aligned, children experience a smooth journey throughout their time with us.
Working in Partnership with Families
We know how busy family life can be, so we plan INSET days, events and key activities together across both sites wherever possible. This means:
-
Shared INSET days
-
Joint events and celebrations
-
Activities planned in partnership, rather than at different times
This joined-up approach helps families to manage their time and enables siblings across the infant and junior sites to share experiences as part of the same school community.
Our infant and junior children regularly come together. They watch each other’s performances and take part in shared events, which helps our younger children become familiar with the junior school well before they officially move up. By the time they reach Year 3, the environment, staff and routines already feel known and welcoming.
